Suspicious fumes close airport section

03/04/11 Eight of the 32 batteries that provide backup power to the airport phone system had cracks that emitted fumes. When airport workers noticed the odor, the baggage claim was closed shortly before noon as a precaution. David Cook, the airport's fire chief, said the West Albany Fire Department hazardous materials team came to the scene and determined the fumes were not dangerous.
