07/14/11 When Dorothy Ries Fitzgerald was 102 years old, she and her three children took a Caribbean cruise. Her three-digit age was too much for the ship's computer system, which attempted to ban her from certain activities thinking she was a 2-year-old. On land that year, Mrs. Fitzgerald frequently served as a reader of scriptures during services at St. Thomas More Church in Bethel Park.

06/22/11 Stephen "Steve" K. Schmeidler, 51, Hays, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, in rural Trego County. He was born Oct. 14, 1959, in Hays to Kenneth and Elizabeth "Betty" (Polifka) Schmeidler. He was a 1977 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School.
