Pitbull that bit child released to owner; Friday Harbor will discuss possible dangerous dog law

12/30/10 A pitbull has been released to its owner after a 10-day quarantine at the Friday Harbor Animal Shelter, after it bit a 3-year-old going to the San Juan Island Library to see Santa Claus. The dog was observed for signs of illness and behavioral problems, shelter manager Leslie Byron said. "It was fine. It didn't show any aggression toward anyone." The dog was released Dec. 27, she said.

Event raises $2,500 for Marine injured in Afghanistan

12/20/10 Islanders raised more than $2,500 on Dec. 11 for Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Billmyer, nephew of San Juan islanders, who was severely injured by an IED explosion in Afghanistan. The event was presented by the American Legion Auxiliary in the Legion Hall in Friday Harbor. Singer Jill Urbach and the One More Time Band provided entertainment, and donated their fee for the evening to Billmyer.

She was predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, William Goss; her sister, Lillie Ericson; and her brother, Bertil Valley.
