04/13/11 She was born Lena Francis Jacobsen on February 20, 1921, to Momme and Mauley Jacobsen in Myrtle Point, OR, where she grew up until the family moved to a ranch up in Chewelekin. Spending the balance of her life in the Okanogan Valley, she finished formal schooling and began working at whatever was to be done - haying, animal husbandry, working in orchards... and she started dating Ben Lee Howe ...

Stanley William Hinger

05/22/11 Stanley William Hinger was born on a homestead near Pettibone, ND, on December 30, 1929. He passed away May 14, 2011, at the age of 81. When he was just seven years old, he moved with his family to the Okanogan Valley, where at 13, his family bought part of the orchard that he himself would one day pass on to his children.

Gorge area set to join AVA ranks - Wed, 29 Jun 2011 PST

06/29/11 After a lull of some years, since Lake Chelan and Snipes Mountain made their debuts as official Washington state American Viticultural Areas, a new burst of activity is upon us. Ancient Lakes and Naches Heights are in the late stages of the application process to become the latest American Viticultural Areas, or AVAs. Also rumored to be in the planning process are Royal Slope and Okanogan Valley.
