Park officials hope to reopen a Channel Island

12/02/10 VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - Just in time for whale watching, park officials hope to reopen Anacapa Island off the Southern California coast this weekend. The small volcanic island, located 14 miles off the coast of Ventura, is part of the Channel Islands archipelago.

Waterfronts: May 26, 2011

05/25/11 Mike Hopper of Pierpont Bay Yacht Club continued his hot streak on Saturday in Anacapa Yacht Club's 29 mile race around Anacapa Island. Hopper has sailed his turbo-like J-22, Majic Dragon, to victory in three of his last four events, while placing second in the other. Majic Dragon carries masthead spinnakers making the J-22 much faster downwind than one-design J-22s.
