    07/07/11 Joseph Whidbey was a member of George Vancouver's 1792 British expedition, the first Europeans to explore Washington's inland saltwater. Whidbey's namesake park is small (112 acres), with a tree-sheltered picnic area four miles west of Oak Harbor.

    07/01/11 A mostly new $1.8 million Terry's Corner Fire Station is under construction and is being built on its old foundation. The funding comes from a bond approved by voters in the Camano Island Fire and Rescue District in 2007, as well as from state and federal grants.
