06/20/11 For every softball season, there always seems to be a theme. Often times, as one would expect in softball, a season will be known for its excellent pitching, but there have been years with outstanding defense and, for a couple of years when this area was blessed with the likes of North Reading's Stephanie Mayne and Central Catholic's Melissa Lucas, there was great power.

Sports in a Minute

07/05/11 Excels in softball, too North Reading's Alex Carpenter of The Governor's Academy, who set the state's all-time scoring record in ice hockey with 418 points, and led her team to the New England Division 2 title, is hardly a one-sport standout.
