New addition helps Miners avoid sweep

07/18/11 MARION -- Sam Wiley's first day to wear a Southern Illinois Miners uniform was certainly a memorable one. Wiley, a catcher who signed with the team early Sunday, hit a three-run, walkoff homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Miners a stunning 5-3 walkoff and comeback win over the River City Rascals and avoid a three-game sweep at Rent One Park.

07/17/11 River City clung to a 3-2 lead for five innings before Southern Illinois broke through with a two-out three-run walk-off homer from Sam Whiley that ended a four-game win streak for the Rascals (35-15).

New Addition Wiley Lifts Miners with Big Blast in Ninth

07/17/11 MARION, Ill. - The Miners took the last game of the series against River City, 5-3, in stunning fashion Sunday evening at Rent One Park. Sam Wiley delivered a two-out, three-run homer after signing with the Miners earlier in the day.
