07/26/10 The dilapidated garage at the corner of Riley Street and Fillmore Avenue has been slowly decaying for years. Bricks have fallen from the walls, the roof is in disrepair and the building has been a target for would-be graffiti artists. More than once the village had been forced to seal parts of the building and perform maintenance to keep the structure from presenting too much of a hazard.
07/25/10 The question of the immediate future of pre-kindergarten at Holland Central School District has been resolved: now that the district and a local child care center have agreed upon a new contract, the program will continue in 2010-11 as it did in 2009-10.
07/25/10 Twenty years after it began, Rural Transit Service is still using volunteer service to provide needed rides to people in areas with little or no public transportation. The not-for-profit agency serves senior citizens, people with disabilities and low-income residents of Erie County.

07/22/10 Elma Councilman Dean Puleo appeared in West Seneca Town Court on Fri., July 16 to face charges of second-degree harassment brought against him by an ex-girlfriend, Kristin Puleo (no relation). 07/22/10 Growth is coming for Steuben Foods, Inc., along with tax breaks and other incentives to encourage the company to keep that growth in the Town of Elma. Steuben Foods, which has a manufacturing site located off of Maple Road, has plans to invest $50 million towards expanding the facility and bringing in new packaging technology, said Thomas Krol, general counsel for the company.
07/08/10 MARILLA-A local animal shelter is in desperate need of help. Pet Connection Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats, is in immediate need of supplies and cash donations to help cope with the high number of animals recently turned over to the organization.
06/28/10 An early retirement incentive may be offered to Town of Elma employees who qualify under guidelines recently established by the state. Supervisor Michael Nolan feels it could help the town save money by eliminating or leaving vacant the positions of those who take the incentive.
06/28/10 The Village of East Aurora and the Town of Aurora are one step closer to having an updated agreement on shared police services following a vote Monday night. Members of the Village Board were unanimous in their approval of new contract language that would give the town a formal method of providing input on police department budgets.
06/26/10 The official Empire State Games torch was lit in New York City on June 18 and is now making its way through the state to Buffalo, where the games will be held from July 21 to 25. Accompanying the torch on its journey are Sarah Mosser and Jonathan McGrath of East Aurora.
06/25/10 The Iroquois School Board voted Thursday night, June 24, to accept the resignations of Assistant Superintendent Brian Wiesinger and Middle School Principal Ann Marie (Spitzer) Wiesinger. 06/18/10 The Roycroft Campus Corporation (RCC) will break ground on Sat., June 19 for the reconstruction of the Roycroft Power House building. The Power House was built in 1909 and 1910, and was devastated by a fire in 1997. The RCC, a nonprofit organization, purchased the building in 2005 with a goal of restoring it to its original exterior appearance.
