STATE: Heavy rain forecast leads to lake release cutbacks

06/01/11 Agencies monitoring the flood levels of the North Platte River were expecting the river to rise to 7.2 feet by May 28 from planned releases from Lake McConaughy to prepare for the impending heavy snowmelt out of the Rockies. The river hit that stage a week ahead of the forecast due to unexpected heavy rains and more is on the way.

06/15/11 The North Platte Telegraph With a heat wave expected to hit the Colorado and Wyoming Rockies next week, Central Public Power District will be resuming releases from Lake McConaughy on Sunday and officials are estimating a rise in the North Platte River to 8.5 feet.

Water releases from Big Mac drop

06/24/11 Kearney Hub HOLDREGE - Lake McConaughy managers reduced water releases by 500 cubic feet per second on Friday in an attempt to mitigate Platte River flooding downstream, particularly at North Platte.
