07/13/11 North Carolina's state parks are limping into a new budget year with a 25 percent cut from the legislature, growing hordes of visitors and a sense that things could be worse.
07/10/11 There are two streams near Edneyville; one springs from the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain, the other from Ball Rock Mountain. When they join, they create a creek that spills into the Broad River at Bat Cave. Signs along the Chimney Rock Highway spell it Reedy Patch Creek. That is the wrong spelling. It should be Ready Patch Creek.
07/07/11 Hundreds participated in the 18th annual Kiwanis Firecracker 5K in Weaverville Monday morning. The first male finisher was Seth Hendler-Voss, 33, of Asheville, and the first female finisher was Sarah Jones, 20, of Asheville.
