Sophomore hurler tops all-county baseball team

07/16/11 Conner Rooney, 16, didn't start playing sports until he picked up a baseball five years ago. "My friends played, so I tried it," said Rooney, a sophomore hurler for the Fernandina Beach High School Pirates and the all-Nassau County baseball team's most valuable player for the 2011 season.

2 tie for top blitz honors

07/17/11 Fifty players came out for last Wednesday's blitz at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Rich Vredenburgh (81) and Charlie Benefield (89) tied at plus 7. Larry Hutchison (86) and Glenn Pendelton (85) were plus 6 to tie for third.
