06/20/11 Many Kansas farmers spent Father's Day in wheat fields or grain elevators throughout the state, bringing in the 2011 crop. Mike Schmidt , location manager at Skyland Grain's Johnson location says harvest began a week ago, and yields are all over the board, from 1 bushel per acre to 40 bushels per acre in dryland fields.

04/23/11 KANSAS CITY, MO. Joseph G. Buehler, 73, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., passed away from complications of Parkinson s disease on April 21 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Holyrood on Dec. 7, 1937, to Carl and Georgia (Dressler) Buehler. He was a graduate of Claflin High School. In 1959, he married Darlene Redetzke in Dubuque.
03/23/11 David Dean Seyfert, 39, died March 23 at his residence. Born July 5, 1971 in Great Bend, he was the son of Dale D. and Shirley R. (Smith) Seyfert. A resident of Great Bend for 20 years, coming from the farm north of Claflin, he was a small engine repairman for Carr Auto and Electronics. His hobbies were working on mowers, chain saws or any small engine repair.

03/03/11 HUTCHINSON Avis J. Riedel, 84, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Garden City. Born Feb. 12, 1927, at Little River, she was the daughter of E. C. and Bessie (Spriggs) Miller. She married Clarence Riedel Sept. 5, 1949, at Lyons. He survives.
