07/11/11 Two people from the southeast Kansas town of Cherryvale have died in a crash near the intersection of U-S 169 and U-S 400. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident happened late Saturday when the driver of a pickup truck failed to come to a halt at a stop sign before getting onto U-S 169. The truck crashed into a car headed south on the highway, causing both vehicles to roll into a ditch.

02/03/11 A locomotive spilled around 3,000 of diesel fuel following a train derailment near Cherryvale, Kansas. Andy Taylor of the Montgomery County Chronicle tells us the spill is now contained. He says the locomotive and five tankers derailed but there were no injuries. Taylor says the tankers were empty. The train is owned by a Watco subsidiary.

02/01/11 A family that last year lost their 23-year-old son, a bull rider from Cherryvale, Kansas, now faces another loss after a fire ripped through their home, destroying much of their son's rodeo memorabilia. Cody Stephens died a year ago of leukemia.
