    Hawaii senators revive excise tax hike proposal

    03/17/10 Hawaii senators revived a plan Tuesday to raise broad-based taxes paid by everyone. The Senate Economic Development and Consumer Protection committees unanimously voted to increase the general excise tax -- Hawaii's version of the sales tax -- by one percentage point to at least 5 percent total.

    Hilo handles Keaau in opener

    03/17/10 Hilo had to wait longer than any other Big Island Interscholastic Federation baseball team to play its regular-season opener. On Tuesday in the bottom of the first inning against Keaau, the Vikings showed they also were willing to wait a little longer while at the plate.
