Drum-and-bugle corps display flashes of brilliance

07/12/11 For three years, Layney Pieratt has spent her summers practicing band 10 hours a day and touring the United States.   "It's kind of hard to explain how it is fun to someone who doesn't do it, but it is," said Pieratt, 21.   The LaCrosse, Wis., Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps drum major, Pieratt is a leader to 150 marching members on and off the field.

07/12/11 The La Crosse Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps took third place, just missing a silver medal Monday by four-tenths of a point at the Rhythms Along the River competition in Davenport, Iowa.
