List of 2011 Michigan casualties in Afghanistan

07/07/11 Army Staff Sgt. Joshua A. Throckmorton, 28, of Battle Creek died July 5 along with two other soldiers after insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan's Paktia province. They were part of the 709th Military Police Battalion, based in Hohenfels, Germany.

Malloy Replaces Controversial Family Magistrate Oliveira

07/10/11 Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has named four new $121,615-a-year family support magistrates to decide cases involving child support, alimony, visitation, and paternity -- and, in doing so, he is replacing a controversial appointee of former Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell, former Old Lyme Republican Town Chairman Christopher Oliveira.
