06/29/11 A 20-year-old runner from Michigan won the 2011 Spit Run last Saturday, edging out Lars Arneson, winner of the event in 2009 and 2010, by 15 seconds. Nick Petro ran the 10-kilometer race from Homer High School to Land's End Resort in 33 minutes, 47 seconds.

Bethel farmers market will open July 7

06/28/11 BETHEL -- The new farmers market in town will open July 7 at 3 p.m. on the Hurgin Municipal Center lawn. The market will continue each Thursday. Vendors already signed up include farmers selling fruit and vegetables, a bread maker, and some sellers of prepared food.
