Voice in the wilderness

07/11/11 At 7,000 feet up, the slopes of Mount Charleston look nothing like one of the biggest fire hazards in the American West. Blanketed in thick-bark Ponderosa pine, hardy squirrel-tail grass and the ubiquitous, draping purple flowers of the lupin plant, the peak, which presides over the Spring Mountains, is more bucolic refuge than clear danger.
