    Burn permits required Sunday

    04/28/11 Tuolumne and Calaveras county residents, beginning Sunday, will be required to get permits to burn slash and like materials on their property, according to the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Cal Fire officials also said Wednesday that it will extend the expiration date of permits set to expire at the end of April, because May 1 is a Sunday.

    Winning science fair students go to state

    04/28/11 Several Calaveras County students will advance to the state science fair in Los Angeles next week. According to the Calaveras County Office of Education, students from Mark Twain Elementary School, Christian Family Learning Center, Bret Harte High School, Mountain Oaks Charter School and Jenny Lind Elementary School won the county contest April 16 and will compete at the state level.
