"It was there through all of high school, where the Kohl's Center is in Newbury Park," said Pickard, who still lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife and children. "I remember when The Oaks mall wasn't there, either, and when Hillcrest Road ended at a sheep farm that's now Amgen.

Lydia French is the Star's college female athlete of the year

07/13/11 Let Lydia French be a lesson against jumping to conclusions. Her surname may be French, but the American high jumper was actually born in Kazakhstan. By following up her CIF state championship as a senior at Thousand Oaks High with a CCCAA state championship as a Moorpark College freshman, French made high jumping look easy two years in a row.
