Pioneers donate $20K to FFA, Payson High

06/14/11 A small group of men fueled by a dedication to keep the pioneer spirit alive in the Rim Country has donated almost $20,000 to FFA and a Payson High School education program. Crews fight Rim wildfire

06/21/11 With calm winds, crews got a handle on a Rim Country forest fire burning near Bear Canyon Lake on the Mogollon Rim. The Willow Fire, not to be confused with the 511,000-acre Wallow Fire, sits at 213 acres with 20 percent containment as of 8 a.m. Wednesday. Officials initially reported the fire was 400 acres, but then downgraded it.

Monsoon rains ease fire threat, drying trend predicted

07/12/11 Blessed by the vigorous onset of monsoon rains, the Forest Service this week lifted closures in Rim Country, but left many fire restrictions in place. The Tonto National Forest on Wednesday will lift closures that had limited use of Fossil Creek, Tonto Creek and areas off the Control Road, crimping tourism at the height of the season.
