Freeman wins mayoral election

11/03/10 David Freeman was elected mayor of Rector in a three-man race in Tuesday general election balloting. Freeman, a current member of the city council, received 288 votes to 162 for Kenny Burns and 61 for Tommy Baker. Freeman garnered 56 percent of the vote, which means there will be no runoff.

Morris wins mayoral race by small margin

11/03/10 Incumbent Piggott mayor Gerald Morris narrowly defeated challenger Danny Brown, 618-607, in voting in Tuesday's general election. Two incumbent Piggott aldermen were defeated.

Burn ban to be strictly enforced

10/21/10 The Clay County Sheriff's Department will be more strictly enforcing burn bans. The decision to place a greater focus on burn ban violations followed a discussion during Monday night's Quorum Court meeting at the county courthouse in Corning.
