Region 8 city looks to protect residents with "safe room"

06/10/10 UPDATED: Mayor Kenneth Jones said he and the city council have been feverishly working with local and state representatives in the last several months. According to Jones, the city is seeking funding in order to construct a brand new safe room to house residents when severe storms and tornados blow over the area.

03/08/10 UPDATED   Fire departments around Region 8 have been working several open field grass fires. On Monday, Craighead 911 Coordinator Jeff Presley asked residents not to burn in their yards or fields.

Fire guts Region 8 home, family out safely

02/25/10 UPDATED: Firefighters from several departments responded to a house fire on County Road 780 Thursday morning. According to the Brookland Fire Department, then home located at 5311 CR 780, was very built and the walls were pretty thick. The fire department had a hard time breaking through some of the walls to extinguish the fire.

Police: possible break-in leads to fatal shooting

02/16/10 NEW INFORMATION:   Brookland Police and the Craighead County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible home break-in that led to a fatal shooting Monday night in Brookland. Police say the shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday night at 110 Christe Street in Brookland.
