Shaw Festival turns 50 years old

05/14/11 It began modestly in 1962 in an upstairs hall in Niagara's historic Court House. A local lawyer named Brian Doherty had a passion for the plays of George Bernard Shaw so he decided to indulge it by presenting two of the Irish dramatist's most popular works -- Don Juan In Hell and Candida -- on eight consecutive weekends that summer.
